Choghadiya

The Hindu day and night are each divided into eight 1½-hour Choghadiyas. Amrit, Shubh, and Labh are auspicious for new ventures; Char is neutral; Udveg, Kaal, and Rog are best avoided. Windows are computed live from sunrise & sunset at New Delhi.

Understanding Choghadiya

Choghadiya (चौघड़िया) is a Vedic system used to pick auspicious windows for daily activities — travel, meetings, purchases, ceremonies. The day from sunrise to sunset is split into 8 equal parts and the night from sunset to next sunrise into 8 more. Each window is ruled by a planet and carries a fixed nature.

  • Amrit (Moon) — most auspicious; ideal for any new beginning.
  • Shubh (Jupiter) — favorable for ceremonies and learning.
  • Labh (Mercury) — gains, business, financial activities.
  • Char (Venus) — neutral; good for travel and short tasks.
  • Udveg (Sun) — restlessness; avoid important work.
  • Kaal (Saturn) — avoid new ventures.
  • Rog (Mars) — illness/conflict; avoid health & legal matters.
