Women fast for husbands; Banyan tree worship.
Jyeshtha
Krishna Paksha
Jyeshtha Amavasya
Princess Savitri, knowing her husband Satyavan was fated to die in a year, married him anyway. On the appointed day, she followed Yama as he led Satyavan's soul away — out-arguing the lord of death with such wisdom that he restored Satyavan's life. She is the patron of the wife who refuses to let go.
Observed for the long life of the husband. The banyan (vat) symbolises Yama defeated and Savitri's victory — its long-rooted endurance the model for a married couple.
